Dirty or Red Water

The District has been experiencing numerous occasions of dirty or red water. The discoloration is due to high concentrations of iron and manganese in the ground water that is pumped from the District’s Water Well. The water is disinfected by means of chlorination and the use of poly-phosphates (bleach) to sequester the iron.

In our efforts to decrease the discoloration in the drinking water a stringent flushing program will begin. We are in the immediate process of locating, excavating, repairing and flushing approximately (24) additional “Blow-Off” Valves through-out the District.

The work will be conducted during the first week of January 2021.

Some Residents in the area of Silverwood Sands Court, Damascon Court, Scotch Grove Court, Glenfield Manor Lane, Shellhorn Court, Mersmann Court, Jersie Violet Lane, Yacoma Oaks Lane, Tanner Ridge Court Weathersfield Trace Circle, Hyland Park, Marigny Drive, Napoleonic Court, Silverglen North Drive, La Fontaine Drive and Seine Court, may experience a short interruption in water services when the work is being performed on that street.

Flushing of District’s Water Main Lines

Flushing of the district’s water main lines will be performed on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 and Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

The directional flushing will continue until all the water main lines have been flushed. The flushing will commence at 8:00a.m. and continue during normal working hours. During this flushing program you may experience some discoloration in the water. Open an inside faucet until the water is clear to flush your houseline.

You should be extremely careful during the period of flushing to make sure the water is clear prior to washing clothes. The adding of chlorine bleach while washing clothes could make any discoloration problems worse.

Tax Rate

At their meeting on September 17th, the Board of Directors voted to lower the District’s current tax rate by two cents, from 0.79 to 0.77.

COVID-19 Update – Please Bag All Trash

Currently trash & recycle services will continue as normal.

Please refrain from generating additional heavy trash, such as cleaning garages, closets, extra yard work, etc. Due to extra volumes, trash is extremely heavy and our routes are running later than normal. Please be patient as we are doing our best to get all trash collected.

In response to the continuing effects of the Coronavirus and in observance of our employee’s safety, we are asking that all waste be placed in plastic bags and tied off to avoid any need for direct contact with the garbage.

Please continue to place your recycling loose in your container. Please break down all boxes and reduce in size as much as possible. If you exceed the capacity of the container, please bag and place with trash. However, if anyone in your household is exhibiting symptoms of any transmissible illness, please place recyclables in plastic bags and dispose of with your regular garbage.

Board Meeting Cancelled

Due to growing concerns regarding the transmission of COVID-19, the Board of Director’s meeting scheduled for March 19, 2020, has been cancelled. The rescheduled meeting date will be posted as soon as it is available.

Notification Upon Changing from Free Chlorine to Chloramines

On Monday, February 24, 2020, Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 304 will be changing the disinfectant that we use from chlorine to chloramines.

This change is intended to benefit our customers by reducing the levels of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in the system, while still providing protection from waterborne disease.

However, the change to chloramines can cause problems to persons dependent on dialysis machines. A condition known as hemolytic anemia can occur if the disinfectant is not completely removed from the water that is used for dialysate. Consequently, the pretreatment scheme used for the dialysis units must include some means, such as a charcoal filter, for removing the chloramine prior to this date. Medical facilities should also determine if additional precautions are required for medical equipment.

In addition, the chloraminated water may be toxic to fish. If you have a fish tank, please make sure that the chemicals or filters that you are using are designed for use in water that has been treated with chloramines. You may also need to change the type of filter that you use for the fish tank.
